The Story Behind the Song

"Still Here (Thank You for K.Kay)" is a deeply personal worship song born out of grief, love, confusion, and faith. Written while sitting at the bedside of my daughter, Mykala Cymone Pearson, this song gives voice to the kind of pain that words can barely hold.

It is not a song written from a place of easy answers; it is a song written through tears, frustration, anguish, and the honest question, "God, why?" It captures the cry of a father talking to his Father — telling God, "I do not understand, but I still need You."

Even in the silence, even when healing has only just begun, this song holds on to the truth that God is near to the brokenhearted, that His strength is made perfect in weakness, and that He remains present in the valley of grief.

For anyone walking through the loss of a loved one, this song is a reminder that you can be shattered and still saved, grieving and still breathing, hurting and still held by God.

Lyrics

I'm saved, but I'm shattered Trying to breathe through the pain The smile they see is hollow My prayers feel stuck in the rain Lord, I know You're sovereign — But why does love still bleed? If Your grace is sufficient, Won't You pour it over me? Still healing, still breathing Still holding on though my soul is grieving You're the lifter of my head When I'm drowning in my fears You're the God who stays near — Still healing, still here I don't doubt Your power But I wrestle with Your will You could've changed the outcome But You chose to leave me still Yet even in the silence When the heavens feel like stone Your Word is still my anchor And I know I'm not alone Your strength in my weakness Your peace in my storm You carry me through it When I can't carry on You're the balm for the broken You're the breath in my lungs The healing has started Though it's far from done… Still healing, still believing Still trusting even when I'm bleeding You're the lifter of my head Wiping every hidden tear You're the God who stays near — Still healing, still here You're the God who stays near… Still healing… still here
